Mike Austin is Director of Manufacturing Engineering for Diversified Tooling Group, whose American Tooling Center operation supplies hot stamping dies to automotive OEMs and suppliers. Mike has headed up the hot stamping development activities team at DTG for the last 7 years including the installation of their AP&T Hot Forming Press Cell, Prima LaserNextfive-axis laser cutting cells, and hot stamping focused metallurgical lab. Mike has 47 years of industry experience in automated processes for hot forming and cold stamping, has authored a number of papers and is a frequent speaker on metalforming subjects.
After studying at Baskent University and Virginia Commonwealth University, Eren Billur graduated and received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University in 2013. As a successful researcher at the Center for Precision Forming, he was responsible for the coordination of sheet forming research. His focus is set on comprehensive topics such as material characterization, sheet metal forming processes and finite element simulations. Eren worked as an Assistant Professor of Automotive Engineering at Atilim University, between 2014 and 2018. He is now technical manager of Billur Makine and Billur Metal Form companies, both located in Ankara, Turkey. He has authored/co-authored more than 20 scientific papers (including proceedings) and contributed to four books, including "Hot Stamping of Ultra High Strength Steels," published in late 2018.
Constantin Chiriac is a Technical Specialist Metallurgist at the Ford Research and Innovation Center, where he is responsible for developing new forming technologies for the hot forming process and stamping of Gen3 advanced high-strength steels (AHSS). He also is responsible for developing laboratory capabilities for state-of-the-art research in the field of press hardening steel and Gen3 AHSS. Dr. Chiriac has a proven record of innovation with 30 patents and patents applications; 28 journal and conference publications; and numerous conference presentations.
Prior to joining Ford Motor Company, Dr. Chiriac worked for United States Steel Corporation as a senior metallurgical advanced application research engineer, responsible for application and development of newly introduced AHSS grades, including Gen 3 AHSS.
Danny Schaeffler is founder and president of Engineering Quality Solutions (EQS), a consulting firm specializing in solving sheetmetal formability problems and material selection/optimization.
EQS works with global automotive and nonautomotive OEMs and their suppliers, as well as steel and aluminum producers and their service centers. Schaeffler writes PMA's MetalForming magazine column, The Science of Forming, and has been published in several industry journals. Through his other company, 4M Partners, which provides formability training, Schaeffler wrote and published Sheet Metal Forming--Engineering and Business Management. Schaeffler is a member of SAE International (serving on the Steel Sheet & Strip Specifications Committee), and is past president of the North American Deep Drawing Research Group.
Sarah Tedesco obtained her BS in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan. She has held numerous roles as a corporate metallurgist at Tier One suppliers, including Associated Spring, Tenneco and Martinrea. She also has a strong process background in press-hardened steels, and operational experience as a QM at Bodycote. Currently she is a Metallurgical Engineer for Upper Body Structures in the Body Structures and Closures group at General Motors.
Michael Worswick is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering of the University of Waterloo and is Executive Director of the Waterloo Node of the Advanced Manufacturing Consortium. He held a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in “Light Weight Materials Under Extreme Deformation: Forming and Impact' (ended-June, 2018) and currently holds a University Research Chair under the same title. He co-Directs the Waterloo Forming and Crash Lab and leads a research program addressing fabrication of light weight automotive body and structural components and their crash safety performance. His research activities encompass structural crash worthiness, high-strain-rate material behavior and sheet forming for auto weight reduction, within one of the largest academic laboratories for such research. The major thrust of his research is the response of materials and structures under the gross deformation conditions associated with forming and impact.
